DESCRIPTION:The HPC Ecosystems Project is launching the first OpenHPC2 Vir
tual Training Lab. \n\nThis FREE training lab will be hosted quarterly an
d is a FREE virtual training workshop for HPC System Administrators to hav
e FREE hands-on experience with deploying a three node virtual cluster usi
ng the OpenHPC2.x software stack.\n\n \n\nThe Lab will provide participan
ts with a 3-node virtual cluster through Vagrant and VirtualBox to be host
ed on their own machines and available for future development and practice
.\n\nAll interaction will be facilitated through a virtual classroom\, wit
h the learning material provided as an online guide.\n\nThe course materia
l is estimated to take 15-20 hours of hands-on time to complete\, with the
course being open for a period of just over two weeks (with three weekend
s).\n\n\n	Pre-Requisites -- participants are expected to have experience a
nd a basic understanding of:\n\n	\n HPC concepts (from a System Administr
 ator's perspective):\n \n What is HPC\n Why HPC\n HPC hardware\n
Parallel Computing Concepts\n Software Compilation\n Material presente
d by the CHPC's Student Cluster Competition is sufficient to meet this req
uirement\, available here: Introduction to HPC for System Administrators.
 docx\n \n \n	\n	\n\n\nThe workshop will concentrate on:\n\n\n
 Hands-on OpenHPC deployment\n\n	\n	\n\n	\n The participants will all p
erform an OpenHPC deployment to a basic virtual cluster running on their h
ost machines\n \n This will cover the basic deployment of the OpenHPC s
olution that is officially supported by the CHPC's HPC Ecosystems and SADC
community\n \n \n At the end of the deployment process\, a fully funct
ional Management Server will be operational as a VM\, and can be migrated
 to a physical system\, or used as-is to manage a physical HPC cluster.\n	\
 n	\n\n\nContent will be delivered asynchronously:\n\n\n	OpenHPC 1.3 Traini
ng Videos are hosted on YouTube (NOTE: at this stage the OpenHPC2.x videos
are not yet available).\n	Collaborative Virtual Classroom environment (Pi
azza\, EdSTEM or similar) where all participants will be encouraged to par
ticipate collaboratively through the workshop.\n\n\nThe format of the prog
ramme is designed to accommodate all partner institutions of any experienc
e or background (provided the foundational reference material is reviewed
in the case of complete new-comers to HPC) with any time availability or w
orkload commitments. \n\nYou do not need an operational HPC system to per
form this training - everything will be run on your local machine (desktop
or laptop). We have 100's of participants who have all successfully run t
he 3-node virtual cluster on their local machines\, but if you experience
resource constraints\, we will do our best to investigate and assist.\n\nI
n extreme circumstances of low or unreliable internet connectivity\, there
are mechanisms to perform the Lab entirely offline in your own time\, alt
hough we will unfortunately not be able to facilitate this during the offi
cial Virtual Lab - please contact us for further information and assistanc
e if you are faced with connectivity issues that prevent you from particip
ating fully in the Official Virtual Lab.\n\nPlease note: there is no cost
to participate.\n\nPurpose for the collection of personal data:\n\n\n	To m
ake contact with you with any matters regarding this course\;\n	Informatio
n on your technical background is used to determine if you are eligible to
participate in this event\;\n	To report to the Departments of Higher Educ
ation and Training\, Science and Innovation\, and the Services Sector Educ
 ation and Training Authority (SETA)\;\n\n\nhttps://events.chpc.ac.za/event
