Description

The increasing emphasis on open science, research integrity, and compliance with funder requirements has heightened the need for effective research data management (RDM) practices within academic institutions. Effective research data management has become a critical component of contemporary research, driven by increasing requirements for data sharing, reproducibility, and compliance with funder and institutional policies. Despite the recognised importance of RDM, researchers often face challenges in developing comprehensive Data Management Plans (DMPs) due to limited expertise, insufficient guidance, and varying disciplinary requirements. The Data Management Planning Tool (DMPTool) has emerged as a valuable mechanism for enhancing research data management practices by providing structured guidance, templates, and best-practice recommendations throughout the research lifecycle.
This paper will explore the integration of DMPTool into institutional research support services as a strategy for enhancing research data management practices. Furthermore, the paper highlights the benefits of DMPTool in improving data stewardship, fostering research integrity, and enhancing the discoverability and long-term accessibility of research outputs. DMPTool contributes to the development of a robust research data culture within academic and research institutions.
