DESCRIPTION:Practical HPC 2026 Winter School Online Course\n\nThis online 
 course will introduce African HPC users to the systems at the CHPC and hel
 p you develop practical skills in using the cluster for your scientific wo
 rk. Attendees will learn the basics of using the CHPC Lengau cluster along
  with how to convert the computational intensive parts of their scientific
  workflow into a job script suitable for the CHPC. The Practical HPC cours
 e is 2 weeks long and will need about 4 hours per day\, including daily p
 ractical sessions each afternoon.\n\nSupervised Learning Period\n\nEvery w

 n to Supercomputing\n\n\n\n\nEPCC's "Introduction to Supercomputing" provi
 des the necessary foundational information and concepts for the Practical 
 HPC course. Their course is free and you will not need to sign up to acces
 s it.\n\nThe first 3 sections are needed for the CHPC Winter School that f
 ollows.\n\nLesson plan & guide:\n\nAfter the introduction\, please work th
 rough the first 3 sections of the EPCC course:\n\n\n\n\n	\n	Supercomputing
  \n	\n	\n	Parallel Computers — SC Hardware\n	\n	\n	Parallel Computing 
 — SC Programming\n	\n	\n	[Optional] Computer Simulations\n	\n\n\nSectio
 n 4 is optional but will help you understand how scientific simulations us
 e super computers.\n\n \n\nSkip the exercises as similar material is cove
 red in the CHPC courses.\n\n \n\n\n*Matlab\n\nThe 3-hour Matlab module is
  presented in partnership with Mathworks and Optinum.  This module will c
 over the use of Matlab for HPC with examples on the CHPC cluster.\n\nHow t

 menu on the left).\n\nNote:\n\nApplications to enroll in the Winter School
  are moderated and will take 1 to 3 business days to process.  Once your 
 application is approved you will be enrolled from 27 July 2026 in the onli
 ne course and receive login details via email.\n\nYou will need to complet
 e all of the first 3 sections of the OxRSE Supercomputing course to be ful
 ly prepared for all the topics in the CHPC Practical HPC course.\n\nWho Ma
 y Apply\n\nThe CHPC Winter School is open to all CHPC users as well as stu
 dents\, postdocs and staff of teaching and research institutions from Sout
 h Africa\, SADC\, the SKA Partner countries\, and other African partner co
 untries of the CHPC.\n\nLimited Places\n\nThe 2026 Winter School has limit
 ed resources and and will only be able to include 80 students.  Preferenc
 e will be given to new CHPC users and those with genuine need.  Successfu
 l applicants will be fully enrolled in the course and have access to the i
 nteractive sessions\, quizzes and assignments during the supervised learni
 ng period.\n\nUnsuccessful applicants may request access to the lecture no
 tes and other non-interactive course material for self-study.\n\nTimelines
 \n\nRegistration: open until 12:00 on 17 August 2026\n\nSelf-study:  14 J
 uly to 10 August for self-study\n\nPractical course:  11–24 August 2026
