the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and funded by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI).

The CHPC invites applications from suitably qualified candidates to enter the CHPC Student Cluster Competition. The CHPC Student Cluster Competition gives students at universities across Africa exposure to the High Performance Computing (HPC) Industry.

The competition is open to all students enrolled in a computer science related undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

This application page is open to participants from any institution in Africa or those who wish to only participate in the virtual component of the training: i.e. either you do not wish to travel to the University of Limpopo to compete in person, or you do not meet the eligibility requirements. (Please note that only in-person participants will be eligible to compete for a place in the Second Round).

The competition is designed to impart critical knowledge for building a cluster, this includes: using Linux systems, the basic software stack of a cluster and cluster design. The competition concludes with an assignment which requires each team to build a prototype cluster in the Cloud.

The competition will run from Monday 4 July to Saturday 9 July and will be hosted online (Content will be released on the 13th of June for self-study and preparations).

There are no fees for successful applicants.
